Canon came to us wanting a fresh approach to telling their inclusion story. We proposed a fresh, striking, and uplifting narrative that brought a multi-layered story to a wider audience. The film aimed to highlight the importance of "bringing your whole self to work," giving employees the opportunity thrive and contribute in their individual way.
The film's focus went beyond the somewhat superficial aspects of diversity, as Canon recognised that individuals are unique and composed of multiple identities, encompassing their life experiences, beliefs, hobbies, and more.
With a bold narrative, using engaging storytelling techniques, the film sought to inspire colleagues to embrace their authentic selves, attract new talent, and cultivate loyalty. It showcased Canon's approach to inclusion and its pivotal role in the organisation's 'People Vision.' The film was shown on platforms, catering to both internal and external audiences, amplifying the message of inclusion across the board.
Our creative approach surpassed the mere creation of a film; instead, we set out to develop a motto, campaign, and film that encompassed the brand's diversity and inclusion ethos, with lasting impact well into the future. It was during this process that 'The Whole You' film was conceived, drawing inspiration from our devised motto 'Canon sees the whole you.'
We began delving deep into the lives of a select group of Canon employees to truly understand who they were and the experiences that shaped them. Our intention, aligned with Canon's vision, was to create a film that went beyond surface-level diversity representation and embarked on a meaningful exploration of what it truly means to be diverse and feel included in the workplace. 'The Whole You' embodies the essence of this philosophy and delicately unravels the raw and authentic stories of Canon colleagues.
By seamlessly incorporating Canon products into the film, we sought to demonstrate their capabilities while aligning their usage with Canon's core values of diversity and inclusion. This concept crystallised the creative vision, employing Canon's camera and lenses metaphorically as a representation of how Canon truly sees the entirety of an individual.
We were able to successfully shoot the entire film within a tight timeframe of just two days. This posed a significant challenge, especially considering the need to capture four distinct stories and their corresponding retrospective scenes. We had to meticulously art direct, dress, and capture the scenes for both film and photography, ensuring that the raw and authentic essence of the colleagues' stories was preserved.
The exceptional quality of our work in editing and sound design has not gone unnoticed, as it has been recognised with four prestigious awards. This includes the remarkable achievement of receiving two Black Dolphins for Best Editing and Best Sound Design at the Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards. This external recognition underscores the film's excellence in storytelling and audiovisual craftsmanship.
We think the final result was pretty incredible, but don’t just take it from us…
"It is difficult to put into words how thrilled I am with the result! From the early spark of our idea to create something, to you sharing your vision and now for us to see the finished product, is fantastic. You and the team have done such a great job of bringing this to life for us with such impact and emotion."
