St. Richard’s Hospice is a fantastic charity that cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life during treatment here in Worcestershire. We’ve partnered with the charity several times over the years and, as it brought a new art trail to the streets of Worcester, we stepped up and added something extra special to the event.
Tasked with getting people talking with mental health, we worked with mental health awareness partner, Onside, to develop an installation that would do real good. That required engagement from a wide audience, and we knew how to get it – with lashings of our signature creativity, of course. At our central Crowngate installation, people were wowed by holographic elements with real personality and, most importantly, were able to learn a thing or two about spotting the signs of poor mental health.
With our innovative AR app, they could create their own elephant designs, just like artists had with the sculptures around the city. Then they could bring their elephants to life wherever they liked, and even become part of the main event, photographing their creations on the podium we installed on Worcester’s High Street. Plus, each week three designs would be featured in the Crowngate installation.
Running for eight weeks, our event installation created a massive buzz around the charity’s wider event and managed to share complex messages with surprising simplicity. The tech itself was incredibly impressive – we saw plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ on our many visits. Really, though, it’s the St. Richard’s Hospice team that can best speak of the event’s success.
Sara Matthews, Business Development Manager at St Richard’s Hospice, says, “We know we can rely on DRPG to ensure the hospice narrative – and the stories of our patients and loved ones – strike a chord with our audiences. From helping us shine a light on mental health issues using a holographic ‘elephant in the room’, to creating a buzz around a virtual festival raising funds for our care, the DRPG team are awesome storytellers."
In recognition of this outstanding achievement, the event installation has been honoured with two awards, including the Silver award for Best Charitable/CSR Initiative at the UK Company Culture Awards. This external recognition further solidifies the impact and success of the installation in conveying St. Richard’s Hospice's important message and mission.
