Looking back on reflection of last year, there hasn’t been any significant change in terms of post-brexit uncertainty across the economy. As most are, we are carrying on as normal, waiting for any significant changes to be made. Of course, the correct steps are being put in place to ensure stability should the economy take a downturn. But, looking back at 2017, it has certainly been a huge success for the drpteam.
The success we’ve had has definitely not been down to luck. 2017 has seen significant investment, in not just ourselves, but in areas such as client education and crisis management schemes. As a creative communications agency, much of our success relies on our clients’ successes. That’s why, even more so now, we are looking at the bigger picture and even further into the future.
Following our own growth, we launched an internal drpacademy, bringing together all the great team development initiatives under one umbrella. Using a combination of internal and external training providers, we have had a diverse programme of activity, from the board through to the entire organisation. This is imperative when ensuring your team are engaged with your brand.
Our investment in people has been recognised again this year as we were awarded for the 6th year running, ‘Investors in people Gold status. A willingness to invest in people must be a key factor for any business and this is when we see the benefits of individuals personal growth and helping with retention of staff.
Specifically, for the events industry, new talent is vital to ensure that it consistently grows. That’s why we were proud to be involved in the development and launch of the industry’s event management apprenticeship scheme. Finishing 2017, we have two full-time event apprentices who are in the process of learning all aspects of the role. With the aim to on-board many more in 2018.
Due to tragic events that have occurred over the year, including the Manchester Arena attack in May, physical security and safety is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. Launched this year and led by our Head of Crisis Management Marie Lacey, we have worked closely with local and national police forces, developing a robust crisis management scheme, which has now been rolled-out across all the drpteam. Additionally, we are driving awareness across the industry, through various educational events, online discussions and articles.
With regards to cyber security, there is an ongoing commitment in these important areas, and we were awarded the ISO27001 standard and Cyber Essentials this year. With the impending GDPR we are investing heavily in our data management and security systems.
2017 has been a fantastic year for our work and business practices being gaining recognition. We took home a brilliant 32 awards, including two Agency of the Year awards wins, at the EVCOM Industry Awards and The Drum UK Event Awards.

To conclude the year, we are still in uncertain times, but I believe that with investment in the business, our people, and the industry, we can ensure that we prosper in 2018 and beyond. I’m sure the new year will be full of exciting projects, new relationships, further team development and many other exciting opportunities.
